Born in Cambridge in 1981, Rinchen has been travelling to East Asia since she was two years old. Here, she shares a selection of images that has been taken over a period of fifteen years when visiting her father’s homeland. It documents the struggles and celebrations of the Tibetan people living in Kham.
In her work she explores an evolving culture, presenting a sensitive portrayal of home and heritage. A society often depicted as foreign or ‘other’, is here recorded by one to whom it is familiar. Focusing on the intimacies of family, friendship and themes of life and death her images are a delicate balance between calm detachment and intimacy.
It is a work in progress, not unfinished, but a life-long endeavour.
Rinchen is currently working on a book of her work.
